I had a situation today where I had to do a Credit Card Authorization from a Dr in Los Angeles. They said, "we'll fax it to you." and I said No Have Fax...I suggested they do this: scan your form into your PC and convert it to a PDF or jpg. Attach it to an email, I will download and print it, fill it out and send it back to you the same way. They thought it strange that a regular person did not have a faux (sic) machine. I thought it strange that they did not use the PDF feature of their word processor. It worked well. Another small victory for the anti-faxers.

Dave, I'm well past 45 and still hooked to my Blackberry. Studies have been done that show children are more creative in an unstrucured, natural environment like a park (rather than a constructed play area). I sometimes wonder if this stiffles my creativity.

My position has always been that the download/streaming/On Demand form of getting movie and TV content will essentially take over the rental market from Blockbuster and Hollwood Video - ESPECIALLY for casual viewers like Dave.

However, collectors, cinefiles, movie fans and the parents of small children will continue to prefer physical media for the next 20-30 years. Serious fans are always going to want a tangable physical product in return for their money, and they demand the highest A/V quality and extras that come with it. Cheap physical media also appeals to parents whose kids may want to key rewatching Toy Story 100 times a month without having to keep paying for a rental.

Dave's right, however, about money being required to make more product. For many years, the success of DVD has funded scores of elaborate and complex restorations of older, classic films - restorations that otherwise wouldn't have been economically possible. I can't see ANY studio spending $10 million to lovingly restore and preserve a movie just to make it available as a $4.99 download.

Something worth thinking about.

I can't argue with that Peter, but like I said I am in upside-down now. Macs are great (I actually have a Mac Mini) but they are just SO expensive to buy several.

Nicely done Dave. You managed to weave family with travel plus a nice picture of upper Mid Western life in one post. When does your first book come out?

I take the Coast Flyer to LAX from SLO. It's a 4-hr ride, and they drop you off at your terminal. $49 one way. A comfortable and relaxing ride.
